Kirk Hinrich's basketball journey began in his childhood, where his father, Jim, was a high school basketball coach.
Under his father's tutelage, Kirk honed his skills from third grade through high school. In 1999, he earned the distinction of Iowa's Mr. Basketball, an award given to the top high school basketball player in the state.
